But all is not lost! Don’t give up. Explore effective ways to store your natural soap bars, ensuring they stay dry, last longer, and provide you with more value for your money.
First. The quality of soap matters. As a soap maker, I have used soap bars that despite all of these tips you are about to read, turned to mush and shambles. So choose a reputable soap maker that has thoroughly tested all of their recipes. And a shameless plug for our soap range which is guaranteed to not go soggy when stored correctly!
Hands, Direct or Loofah?
Introducing controversly about the best way to use bar soap! Ultimately there is no right or wrong way – it is personal preference.
However, some methods will use the bar up quicker so that is something to consider.
1: Soap to hands – This is the method of rubbing the soap on your hands then using your soapy hands to clean your body. It is straightforward, easy, gentle on your skin and usually creates a nice lather.
2: Soap directly on the skin – This allows for more direct and targetted cleansing however the soap may not lather as well and you will use the bar up quicker. It is a great option for targeting specific areas.
3: Soap to sponge, washer or loofah – A great option depending on what you need. Use something else helps create a great lather, extends the soap further and may even have added benefits of exfoliating as you go.
Whatever method you choose, that is not the only thing to know about the best way to use your bar soaps.
Store your soap correctly
This may seem obvious but storing your soap well in between uses is critical. For on your bench, invest in a soap dish that has proper drainage. Look for dishes with raised ridges or slots to keep the soap elevated while allowing water to drain away.
A soap dish with drainage ensures that your soap bar dries between uses, preventing it from turning into a soggy mess.
Or if you are using the soap in your shower, invest in a wire/metal rack that hangs over your shower screen or on a hook. This allows air to circulate around the bar so they can dry out inbetween use.
Use a soap Saver Bag
Soap saver bags are great for storing your natural soap bars. These mesh bags allow the soap to breathe, facilitating the drying process.
Place your soap bar inside the bag, hang it in the shower or near the sink, and let it dry naturally. It keeps your soap tidy and prevents any residue from accumulating.
As a bonus, our Soap Saver Bags come prefilled with soap offcuts. Not only a great way to use soap, but a sustainable way to reduce waste from the soap offcuts created during production.
Rotate your soap bars
To ensure equal usage and prevent one soap bar from becoming excessively wet, rotate your soap bars regularly.
By using a different soap bar every few days, you allow ample time for each bar to dry between uses.
A great option is to buy a normal soap bar and a scrub soap bar. Exfoliate a few times a week and this will allow the bars to dry out further inbetween uses. I recommend the Olive Scrub Soap Bar – the scent on this is amazing!
By implementing proper storage practices, you can bid farewell to the annoyance of soggy soap and enjoy the full benefits of your natural soap bars.
Follow these tips to maintain their longevity, prevent wastage, and make the most of your investment.
